Improve search engine rankings (checklist)
Here is my top 10 list of things to do in order to improve your rankings in Google or any other search engine.
1: Create and manage content easily
If you are starting from scratch install a CMS like Wordpress. Did you know you can even create an entire site in Wordpress that looks nothing like a blog?
2: Start or revisit keyword stategy
Find related keywords based on your topic or theme. Use a great alternative to Keyword Discovery or Wordtracker I recently found.
3: Create even more web content
Write content using a Wordpress as a CMS. Create at least 10-15 pages to start.
4: Analise Titles and Descriptions
Optimize pages with unique titles and descriptions for every page. Consider SEO plugins to make this easier.
5: Explore long tailed keywords
For starters Focus on long tailed keywords in your content. For better search engine ranking try to link to you related pages using keywords as well. Download my free internal linking tool to check your optimized meta tags and anchor links.
6: Use simple static URLs
Make sure pages end with simple static URLs. If your using Wordpress create a document ending in htm or html. More to come about this….
7: Setup Webmaster Tools
Signup for Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics. They are both free to use. Use plug-ins to speed up this process.
8: Create a site map
Create a XML site map that tells people where everything is on your site. Wordpress has a great plugins to make this easier. More to come on how to set this up!
9: Create web relationships
Find related websites and get them to link to you. External links boost your rankings and create a website presence which will guarantee to improve search engine rankings over time.
10: Get back to creating content!
Create new content that is rich with information about your topic. You want to create a page a day if you want to rank for competitive keywords. Providing good “how to” information is a great way to get links naturally.
