Backlinks … what do they mean to Google?
Backlinks are the links coming from other sites or even pages within your site that point to a given page. These are also referred to as external links.
You external link popularity plays an important role in how you rank with other sites. The more popular you are (links pointing to you), the better your site will rank with the search engines.
