Reciprocal
links to increase site popularity
Reciprocal
links are a great way to promote your website.
Not only do links increase traffic but they make your
site rank better with the Search Engines. Understanding
how reciprocal linking works is simple. If you link
my site ... I'll return the favor and link to yours.
But it goes a bit deeper than that. Simply exchanging
links can work against you if not done properly.
You
must first consider whether or not the link your exchanging
will benefit your sites visitors. A good reciprocal
link
will lead to content that your visitors may be interested
in. As an example, if your sites about Cats & Dogs
will your visitor appreciate a link to a SEO Site?
I think not.
At the other end of the spectrum you don't want a
link a site so similar in content
to yours. Try to stay away from links that may be
too close to your niche. Always remember you want
a related site but nothing that may directly compete
with yours.
The
quality of the site your linking to is also important.
You want your partners site to match the quality
of you site. The Page Rank of the site may be a good
indicator. Is is the Page Rank the same or better
than yours? This can sort of give you an idea of its
traffic level and overall popularity as well.
When
you have successfully obtained a link, make sure to
maintain it and keep it active. Check
back to make sure your link partner is doing the same.
If he is not, contact the webmaster and let him/her
know it can't be found. If you continue to see your
link missing, simply note the site to yourself and
remove the link.
